Merit Badges are a large part of your individual scouting experience after you reach the rank of First Class. There are over 100 merit badges, providing a myriad of opportunities to explore new topics and learn about the world around you. Did you know that Stephen Spielberg shot one of his first movies with his scout troop for his photography merit badge?

We often work on merit badges in groups, but don't think of that as the only way to work on a merit badge. In fact, most of your merit badge activities will be outside of troop meetings, which allows you work at your own pace to get the most out of each merit badge.

The merit badge process is composed of four easy steps:

1. Contact the Scoutmaster to get a signed Blue Card indicating that you may start working on a specific merit Badge.

2. Contact a merit badge counselor to work with you on the requirements.

3. Complete the requirements.

4. Submit in your completed Blue Card to the advancement coordinator (keep your stub for your scout records) and receive your merit badge.

Attention Adults! We depend on adult volunteers within our community to be merit badge counselors. This is an excellent opportunity to work with small or large groups of boys to pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm on a variety of topics.  Click here to view a list of merit badge for which we currently have no counselors. Troop 18 benefits from having multiple counselors for a given merit badge. If you are interested in becoming a merit badge counselor, please contact Cindy Crumb (merit badge counselor coordinator) at 685-9577 or email to webmaster. A background check will be required (performed by counsel).
