Serve Local | The Learning Center
The Learning Center, through a comprehensive literacy and education program, meets the needs of adults seeking to break out of the cycle of generational poverty. Many types of volunteers are needed to help run this important ministry! As a volunteer, you will make a tremendous impact in the life of another adult who is struggling to succeed while demonstrating the love of Christ to someone who is in need.
Here are the main volunteer roles needed:
Instructors
No Certification Required! Dawson volunteers are needed to teach Literacy/GED courses including: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Life Skills classes (Faith & Finance and Men’s and Women’s Bible studies). Job Skills Training is also offered through a Ready-to-Work program.
Reading Tutors
Reading Tutors provide individualized teaching to functionally illiterate adult students. Tutors meet each week with students during the semester.
Mentors
Mentors share life with students, encourage and support them, hold them accountable to their academic and professional goals, celebrate completed goals, and offer spiritual advice as requested. Mentors connect each week with students during the semester.
